As a Mason there is an expectation upon joining to make a solemn promise as to one’s conduct within & out of the Lodge. You must promise, without detriment to your family or business obligations, to support charity. There is a discreet confidential manner in which fellow Masons greet each other.

Is Freemasonry a religious organisation?

No, however, all Freemasons must hold a religious belief in a ‘Supreme Being’ of any denomination. Freemasonry does not discriminate between any individual’s belief.

Freemasonry plays no part in politics & it is not encouraged or discussed within the Lodge.

Why do Masons wear Regalia?

Regalia has an historic & symbolic meaning & identifies a members rank within their fraternity.

How many Freemasons are there?

There are in excess of 250,000 members under the United Grand Lodge of England (U.G.L.E.), but it is estimated that numbers are close to six million worldwide. There have been some very famous Freemasons over the years; Sir Winston Churchill, George Washington, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Burns, Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong & Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin to name but a few.

How much does it cost to be a Freemason?

The cost will vary depending upon the individual Lodge. There is an Initiation Fee & your Lodge will have an annual subscription. At meetings you will be required to pay for your meal at the conclusion of the meeting & a minor donation to charity. You will never be asked to give more than you can reasonably afford.
